Day two!

Today we woke up early to go to a tour we had signed up for in Vatican City which required us to wear pants and a shirt that covered our shoulders.  So, despite dying in the heat, Vatican City was incredible!  We toured the Vatican City museum, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica.  Every place we went had walls and ceilings covered with intricate paintings and decorations.  The museum had a hall of tapestries and a hall of maps, both halls had amazingly detailed ceilings.

After the museum, we walked through the Sistine Chapel.  Inside, we weren't allowed to talk or take any pictures but the whole room was covered in paintings.  We learned that it took Michelangelo four years to finish painting the whole chapel.

Next, we went to St. Peter's Basilica which was a huge church where the Pope will sometimes hold mass.  It was huge and again like the other buildings, full of detail.

After Vatican, we went back to our hotel to change then walked down to a park nearby which is supposedly compared to Central Park and rented a 4 person bicycle to ride in.  It was a lot of hard work peddling on so many hills, so of course we had to get gelato after!

After bike riding we were all exhausted so we took a nap and then went to visit the Pantheon.  The Pantheon was another building for worshipping and was built in 150 AD.  It is circular and was inspiration for the capital building in Washington DC.  After walking around there we went to dinner at a small, family restaurant and it was delicious!

I apologize for the overload of pictures today but here are some more:

I had to take a picture of my birkenstocks while we were on our tour
