Day five and six!

Yesterday we caught a train from Rome into Venice, Italy!  We arrived into Venice about 4:00 and used the day to walk around and explore.  Venice is awesome!! Since the city is built on water, we've used a boat that's comparable to a subway on water to get around.  Also, there are little canals all throughout the town that run right between buildings, it's so pretty.  We visited St. Mark's Square, St. Mark's Basilica, and Rialto Bridge too.  St. Mark's square is filled with pigeons and if you give them food they will just come up and land on you.  It's kind of scary!  Also, as we were waiting to get to one of our stops on the boat, we passed a building with a big camera crew and it looked like they were filming something for a movie!

Today we woke up and went to the roof of our hotel to eat breakfast.  We had a table right on the edge overlooking the sea!  After breakfast, we took the boat over to Murano which is a city known for their glass blowing.  Murano is very comparable to Venice, only smaller and less busy.  We just walked around the town while stopping in shops every once in awhile to look at all the glass.  It was amazing some of the things they could make.

Next, we went back to our hotel to drop off our cameras and then we left for the Guggenheim museum.  It is a museum that they made out off Peggy Guggenheim's house.  Peggy used to buy a bunch of famous paintings, so once she died they kept all of it to make a museum.  Some of the artwork was hard to appreciate as it looked like I could paint it myself, but other paintings were more interesting.  She had original paintings that were painted by Picasso and Salvador Dali!  After the Guggenheim, we went back to our hotel to relax because Venice is more about walking around and enjoying the town.  We have definitely done plenty of that!  While walking, the inevitable happened.  One of the many annoying seagulls pooped right in front of me and it splattered very nicely on my leg.  So as you can imagine, I was a little paranoid after this incident.  So of course immediately after, a huge flock of seagulls starts flying overhead for no apparent reason.  I'm sure you could imagine my terror.  But, the seagulls eventually disappeared and luckily we did not get pooped on.  We then found a street with a lot of locals eating and walking.  It was nice to be somewhere without all the tourists and watch how they interact.  We found somewhere nice to eat for dinner then explored some more before heading back to our hotel.

Here are some pictures from both Venice & Murano:
